Rapper Jay Z has admitted his marriage ‘wasn’t totally built on 100 per cent truth’. It’s been almost two weeks since the 47-year-old rapper released his album 4:44, which appears to be a direct response to accusations of his infidelity that appear on Beyoncé’s album Lemonade and an open apology to his wife.
In a video released yesterday on Tidal, Jay-Z joins the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Chris Rock and Grey’s Anatomy actor Jesse Williams to discuss the subject of love, marriage and relationships in the video ‘Footnotes for 4:44’. And while he has seemingly addressed his alleged cheating, the now infamous ‘Becky’ from Beyoncé’s visual album, and opened up about his alleged womanising, the heartbreak of miscarriage, and his mother’s sexuality throughout his new album, the father-of-three uses his latest video to talk about the the true state of his union with Beyoncé, revealing it wasn’t totally built on truth. ‘I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth’, Jay-Z says in the video.
‘Then it starts cracking, and then things start happening that the public can see…We had to go a point and be like, “Tear this down”, and then start from the beginning,’ he added.
The star then divulged on how it feels to have his private life out in the open. Things start happening that the public can see,’ he recalled.
Jay-Z – who has daughter Blue, five, and newborn twins named Rumi and Sir with his singer spouse – insisted his relationship had been more testing than when he was being shot at during his tough upbringing in Brooklyn, New York, and recalled one holiday where he begged her to stay. ‘Then we had to get to a point of ‘OK, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning.’ It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done,’ he explained.
We’re not sure what these ‘things’ are which Jay-Z alludes to but we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s referring to the leaked CCTV footage of Beyoncé’s sister Solange’s fight and blazing row with the rapper in a lift at the Met Gala 2014.
