The BET awards was a rousing success with lots of surprises both on the winners list and also on the red carpet. Celebrities turned out in stylish threads but one beauty we totally love for trying something different is BLACK-ish star, Yara Shahidi. The 17-year-old actress has been making waves with her amazing talent and fabulous natural hair. 
But it seems she is about to become a red carpet royalty as well as she stepped out in denim. Shahidi’s dress was a slim fit number that hit her right around the knees, but there was nothing demure or old fashioned about it. It had a high neckline, and from one of the straps ran a giant ruffle down her torso that brought drama to her look. 
The rest of the dress was deconstructed with rips and shreds, giving the outfit a playful touch that was a contrast against the haute-couture-like shoulder ruffle. She rounded out the outfit with shoulder-skimming gold hoops, proving black-tie isn’t the only way to do an award ceremony. Adding an extra dollop of attitude, she opted for a textured Jimmy Choo heels to complement her outfit. If you didn’t think denim was red-carpet worthy then, we think Yara just proved you wrong.
