Queen Elizabeth Will Not Abdicate Throne To Her Son – Prince Charles

Buckingham Palace officials would not be drawn to comment on whether rumours of the Queen handing over powers to her son – Prince Charles will be happening, but however referred to the pledge the Queen made on her 21st birthday, where she said: ““I declare… that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service”.Allies close to the world’s longest serving monarch have dismissed claims she will request that the Regency Act is enforced in the near future. The UK’s Regency Act 1937 means the monarch can relinquish power to the heir “in the event of incapacity of the sovereign through illness, and for the performance of certain royal functions in the name and on behalf of the sovereign in certain other events”.Royals sources also rejected claims the Queen is to request the Regency Act come into force. ‘The Queen has always been so vehement that there will never be a regency unless she was sick to the point of being unable to perform her duties,’ one told The Sunday Times.Photo Credit: Getty
