American fashion model Halima Aden popularly known for being the first Somali-American to compete and become a semi-finalist in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, is the real definition of chic. After being signed with IMG Models and walking the Yeezy show, the model yet hits another big one as she appears in the July 2017 cover of Allure Magazine.
In photographs lensed by Sølve Sundsbø, the leading model wears a hooded Hilfiger Collection top with a Nike hijab for the Allure magazine evolutionary cover. The historic cover marks it the first time Allure has featured a hijab-wearing woman on the front page. Helima was styled by Beat Bolliger, in the designs of Loewe, Gucci, Celine and more for the spread, while Philippe Tholimet worked on hair and Val Garland handled her gorgeous makeups.
When asked if her wearing a hijab impacts her negatively, she revealed, “I had friends who weren’t wearing it, and they went through bullying, too. It was a tough time, everyone just wanted to be mean.” And today? “If you think people are against you and that you’re a target, things will start appearing that way. I just go about my day, and I don’t think anyone is out to get me.”
